Alameda Golden Ginkgos
Visiting my father in-law in Alameda, Calif. during the fall is pretty exciting and an outrageous site to see. The streets are lined with Ginkgo trees and their leaves are falling and covering the front yards and streets with ginkgo leaves. My first words at seeing this was wow! Then I went back in the house and grabbed my camera and took lots of pictures of the neighborhood. I found a driveway with leaves and tree reflections in the gutter water and I saw a great composition. I found the layout reminding me of a Lithograph by M.C. Escher, called Three Worlds.
I did my best to pay homage to a great artist whose art I've loved ever since high school. I just realized I hadn't seen his lithograph in over 20 years but that image has always been ingrained in my brain. When you look at my Alameda Golden Ginkgos please take some time and view M.C. Escher's Three Worlds...did I or didn't I pay him homage.
Another small note, It was my father and mother in-laws 50th anniversary or their golden anniversary and a friend of theirs said it looked as if the streets were paved in gold for them...very nicely put. What better title then Alameda Golden Ginkgos. This is the first in a series of Ginkgo drawings which will hopefully show the beauty of Ginkgo Trees and the golden leaves they drop.
Drawn on Strathmore 400 series recycle paper, very durable, holds blends, and rich colors.
